PURPOSE:
|
Learn first hand from a respected professional what it really takes to make a good recording, from both the artist and the producer/engineer viewpoint. Plus, learn industry secrets (the “insider info”) that will orient you towards a lifetime of faster and more productive overall musical results.

INSTRUCTOR:

Randy Green -- Producer, engineer, studio owner and builder, road musician for 20 years, composer, and 1971 UW-Madison graduate (B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology) (Click here for more about Randy)

LOCATION:

You will work at the spacious and respected Randy’s Recording, near Cottage Grove, where over 20,000 local and regional musicians from metal to folk have recorded since 1985.

The camp is being offered during these weeks in June/July (8 sessions):
June 2-6, June 9-13, June 16-20, June 23-27, July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25, July 28-August 1

TO BE EXPLORED:

- Mics and mic placement
- Running a recording console
- Recording and mixing on computer software as well as on analog tape
- The role of the “producer,” and how to produce someone else
- Becoming a more effective recording artist yourself
- Much more! The curriculum will be flexible depending on students’ specific projects and prior knowledge

REQUIREMENTS:
|
- Bring your instrument -- we’ll use it to record a useable demo for you.
- Be ready to have FUN!
|

CONTINUATION:
|
Students wishing to continue beyond the introductory camp will be able arrange private or semi-private recording lessons in the fall. (Students who attend the summer introductory camp will get a discount on future lessons.)
